Physical Education

Developing Character, Competence and Lifelong Participation

A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect. Adapted from National Curriculum, DfE, 2014.

Physical Education at Holderness Academy plays a vital role in developing healthy, confident and resilient young people. Our curriculum is designed to inspire students to enjoy physical activity, develop competence across a broad range of sports, and understand the importance of wellbeing and personal growth through movement.

At Holderness Academy, students experience a broad and ambitious PE curriculum, rich in knowledge and opportunity, which prepares them for future learning, employment and lifelong participation regardless of starting point. Through a carefully sequenced curriculum, students build physical literacy, teamwork, leadership and confidence while being challenged to achieve their personal best.

Extracurricular

At Holderness Academy, we believe that sport extends far beyond timetabled PE lessons. Our extracurricular programme is delivered by specialist and enthusiastic staff who are passionate about providing students with meaningful opportunities to participate, compete and thrive.

We are proud to offer an inclusive provision where all students are encouraged to represent the Academy, helping to develop a strong sense of belonging, community and pride in being part of Holderness. Alongside traditional competitive fixtures in football, rugby league, netball, rounders and athletics, students also attend a variety of events including archery, indoor athletics, cross-country, darts and bowling.

We are equally committed to supporting SEND students within Physical Education and school sport, with opportunities to take part in inclusive activities such as bowling, boccia and Panathlon events. At Holderness Academy, we ensure that both boys and girls have equal access to sporting opportunities, including participation in football and rugby, reinforcing our belief that sport is for everyone.
